The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) is the only Community Hospital awarded the Platinum Award for the Quality Healthcare Workplace Award through the Ontario Hospital Association. Our Vision is to deliver an excellent patient care experience, in a safe and compassionate environment, in collaboration with our healthcare partners.

We are a 166-bed facility providing patient care for the residents of the city of St Thomas and Elgin County, with a total catchment area of 89,000 people. We have Emergency Room trained Physicians and have one of the shortest emergency wait times in Ontario. We provide comprehensive 24-hour care in Medicine, Surgery, OB, Pediatrics and work in collaboration with educational institutions to provide hands-on experience for residents and students in various areas of specialization and
healthcare professions.

We have recently been approved for a redevelopment and expansion project that includes; a 15-bed Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit and an Outpatient Mental Health Day Hospital; a new Emergency, Ambulatory Care and Surgical Services and Central Supply Departments; and improvements to our main entrance and throughout the hospital.

The upcoming improvements will support the implementation of an automated medication management system and electronic order entry that will enhance the provision of safe medication management including pharmacist clinical consultation and the
ordering, preparation and delivery of patient medications.
